Should I Choose Daily or Monthly Disposable Contact Lenses?

Whether you’re a first-time contact lens wearer, researching the right type for you, or a current wearer looking for a change, bear in mind that disposable contact lenses are a comfortable and effective alternative to glasses, and there is a type out there to suit every kind of lifestyle.

In this post, we discuss three different kinds of disposable contact lenses, and weigh up the benefits and pitfalls of each one.

Daily Disposable Contact Lenses

Daily contact lenses are the disposables with the shortest lifespan: pop them in in the morning, and throw them away before you go to sleep at night. Many wearers, especially those with an active lifestyle, find these to be the most convenient type, as they require very little care and no cleaning at all. They’re soft and comfortable, and don’t need to be washed after a day at the beach or a sweaty stint in the gym, as you will start with a fresh new pair for your next wear.

Dailies can also work out more economical than bi-weeklies or monthlies if you don’t wear them often, and are good for allergy sufferers, as there is no build-up of allergens over time. One of the main downsides, though, is that there is more packaging, and so they are generally less environmentally friendly.

Monthly Disposable Contact Lenses

Monthly contact lenses, on the other hand, are more environmentally friendly and perfect for everyday wearers who are searching for an economical choice. If you enjoy the freedom of contact lenses, or aren’t a fan of your glasses, these will most likely be your number one choice.

Like dailies, monthly contact lenses are disposable, but they do necessitate more care to maintain. For example, if you are taking a weekend trip, or staying somewhere new overnight, you would have to remember to bring a bottle ofsolution and a case for washing and storing your contact lenses. If you are prepared to take responsibility for your eyes’ health by ensuring your lenses are well-maintained, then there is no reason these can’t be for you.

1-2 Weekly Disposable Contact Lenses

Last, but not least, is the happy medium between the above-mentioned two types: weekly or bi-weekly contact lenses. As 1 or 2-weekly contact lenses are not made for a single wear, nor do they last a full month, these disposable lenses do not need prolonged upkeep, but will require some basic care. Their storage and cleaning is the same as monthlies, but they provide some of the freedoms of dailies, too.
